For our international ‘Automation’ team in the Materials Technology division at our Wallisellen site, we are looking for a
Mechanical Design Engineer - Automation and Engineering Support 80-100%
Your Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the engineering and continuous development of our industrial automation systems, with a strong focus on mechanical design, technical documentation, spare parts, and upgrades.
- Design and develop new automation machines and systems, from concept to implementation, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Create, update, release and maintain 2D drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs) and technical documentation for new and existing equipment, ensuring that engineering records remain accurate and traceable throughout the machine lifecycle
- Manage spare-parts engineering for existing machines, including part identification, technical clarification, replacement and obsolescence solutions, and the corresponding updates to drawings, bills of materials and documentation
- Plan and engineer machine upgrades, retrofits and technical improvements, assessing feasibility, defining mechanical modifications and coordinating implementation with internal teams, customers and suppliers
- Provide technical support for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair, working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Support RFQs and technical projects by developing practical mechanical solutions, coordinating technical topics with suppliers, and ensuring proper documentation throughout the machine lifecycle
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering with an Automation focus, or a comparable technical field
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial automation, special-purpose machinery, or machine building
- Strong experience with SolidWorks and technical documentation, including drawings, 3D models, and BOM management
- Practical understanding of automation systems, machine components, robots, handling systems, and integration of third-party equipment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Good communication skills in English, Italian and/or German required
- Valid Category B driving license
